Botox for beauty? Beauty is Botox?
Who doesn’t want to have a pretty, smooth, young and fresh looking skin? Nowadays, it can be achieved easier than ever by injecting fillers and botulinum toxin type A (Botox).
A few months ago I was considering having Botox and fillers to smooth my frown lines and refresh my tired looking eyes and my tear trough. When insecurities, social pressure to look young, beauty canons and fashion trends creep into our self esteem, our self- worth and self image become disturbed. Otherwise we wouldn’t like to do it, would we? I nearly booked appointments, but it still didn’t feel in line with my “organic” lifestyle. It was definitely against my values, but I was so unhappy with my appearance that this idea was in my mind nearly every day.
Botulinum toxin type A is made from bacteria that causes botulism. Although botulinum toxin is considered completely safe in amounts that are present in Botox, Xeomin and Dysport, it can travel via our nerves to the central nervous system. Moreover, it is not really recommended for people with autoimmune disorders.
Furthermore, Botox contains albumin, which is a derivative of human blood. There is a very slight risk of transmission of viral diseases and variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, but if you are not bothered by its gross ingredients and if its benefits are likely to outweigh potential risks, why not to have a smooth forehead? 😉 In turn, Xeomin, which is a similar product, contains no complexing proteins or albumin. Botox is also tested on animals.
Despite the fact that botox treatment is considered perfectly safe, it arouses some controversies alike fluoride in drinking water, vaccinations and medication containing psychoactive substances such as methylphenidate hcl prescribed for people with ADHD. Bear in mind that arsenic was once a popular beauty treatment and an approved cancer cure.
Our crow’s feet are our life’s heritage, result of our emotions, experiences and gifts from life (both desired ones and the ones we hope never happen to us).
After considering all pros and cons of botox and the temptation of being a MILF, I stick to my old fashioned values and to accepting the process of aging. Imperfections, natural consequences of aging and bad lifestyle choices in the past are here to teach me deeper love to myself and I use it on my adventure to self- growth. At the end of the day if we can accept our “impurities” (or hopefully even love them) we can become more empathic and loving towards others’ “imperfections”, too. Our wrinkles say a lot about our lives, lifestyles and characters. Botox is an easy way to look and feel happier, but a true happiness is something deeper than a smooth forehead and I hope it lasts longer than a few months. I am not against Botox, but at the moment I prefer natural, especially plant based treatments and skin care. However, you never know what the future can bring and what life can throw at you. I never say never and like with everything else I will keep my mind open.
